Mt Carmel Home Page

Mt. Carmel contacted me to redesign their website towards the end of Summer 2012.  Their previous site was static, cumbersome to update and manage, not to mention that the only software they had at their disposal was FrontPage for their WYSIWYG editor.  Based on their frustrations of their old site I recommended that they move to a content management system and we settled on Drupal 7.

I began the project talking to them about their needs for the website and what functionality they would like it to provide.  Since their previous site also did not have any analytic reporting attached to it, I also made a quick survey for their congregation to find out exactly what they expected from a new site build and what kind of technology they used as end users.  From the results of the survey the big things they asked for were a better way to view/listen to sermons on the web, view events from a calendar, and have their preschool information more easily accessible.

From there I began working on a flowchart for Mt. Carmel’s team so they could visualize the full scope of their new site and determine the hierarchy for pages.  Once the flowchart was finalized I then began working on wireframes of their pages so we could begin examining how the specific pages would convey content.

The design of their site prominently features the ability to view sermons from the home page as well as upcoming events that also link back to their site’s main calendar.  The toolbar and drop-down menus also allowed for a more cleaner page display.  Since we used Drupal as our CMS we also used the Views module to have their content displayed on other pages to insure that it was always at their end user’s fingertips.  I also set up their site for better SEO by using the Page Titles module and Google Analytics module.   This project also incorporated their use of social media by giving them an area to add their Facebook, Twitter, and Pintrest accounts as well as allowing end users to post site content on their own social outlets using the Share This module

In all this project was completed and delivered in about three months.  Visit their website.
